9 Month Mark!

I cannot believe I’ve hit the 9 month mark already. Although people keep saying I look like I am ready to pop, burst, explode (oh I’ve heard it all and then some) I technically still have a few weeks to go until this baby comes. Although I feel so lucky to have had a good and healthy pregnancy, I do admit, keeping up my work schedule is getting harder (especially because it’s so tough to sleep but I hear that’s normal!). My feet and legs are so swollen (I am trying to keep them elevated as much as possible and wearing my not so comfortable doctor prescribed compression tights but nothing seems to help) they are unrecognizable! This baby is moving and kicking like crazy- and wants out I think!

The nesting thing I heard about I guess has kicked in! I just want everything organized and set up. I’ve been cleaning like crazy. A few weeks ago, we moved, so unpacking has been a bit stressful. But slowly, with the help of my amazing parents, I am crossing things off the list. I think I have all the baby stuff I need. (I am so behind on getting thank you cards out and I feel terrible about that!) One of my best friends, Vanessa Alfano, is a Mommy Blogger and made me this list of her favorite baby gear (and my very loving work family surprised me with this segment!).

We went to hospital orientation on Sunday… it seemed that all of the other parents-to-be (all due way after me btw) had their bags packed and pediatricians picked. I am getting on both this week (and thank Elizabeth for sending me a care package with a lot of what I’ll need)! Would love any of your mommy-must-haves and Long Island friends, any Nassau County south shore pediatricians you love!

So in the middle of this craziness (we are also opening a new restaurant this month) my dear friend Ingrid (again) suggested that I take maternity pics and said she had the perfect photographer friend to do it. At first I said no… not feeling so great about how I look… and I have plenty of pics of me and videos of me… and I don’t have time for a photo session…. so, I said no again…. and then several more people suggested I take some and said I’d regret not taking them. One of my girlfriends said, “you are so blessed to be pregnant- god willing you will have this blessing again- but who knows.”

So, Ingrid was kind enough to set the whole thing up with Jennifer of Two Bees photography at a beach by my house last week, and even picked me a dress to wear. I practically forced my husband to go… I was kind of embarrassed and nervous but Jen (who is a mom) made me feel so comfortable and was so quick (thank goodness because Mo isn’t so patient with those types of things) and now I am so happy that she captured this very special time in our lives. She even delivered me the flash drive today in the cutest package!  Although these are very personal to me, I thought I’d share a few with you because I am very grateful.

I do have to apologize if you received an inappropriate response to a kind comment on a previous post, someone made an email account pretending to be me and was responding to many of you. They also write mean and hurtful things to me as well. I choose not to let hate and negativity impact me during this very precious time.  Instead, I send that person prayers that they somehow find peace and happiness for themselves.

Thank you for all of the well wishes and kind notes… I appreciate all of the love & advice!

Hi Elisa…I comment from time to time on your fb page. Best advice this month I want to give you is to rest. My 39th week I knew I was done and had Emily 4 days into that week. there ia a whole story with my hilaroous 20 hours of labor. But that will take to long to write. After the baby is born you will never sleep like you use to sleep again. I didn’t believe it when people told me but it is true so rest rest rest now! Good luck and I am sure I will comment on all your fun postings once in a while. Many Blessing!

He is amazing!!!!! We have been using him since 2011 when I had my first child Derek. He was extremely supportive when my son was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and gave us great advice and resources to get him the help he needed. Now he is 5 and is finally starting to talk. My son even says now when he doesn’t feel well “Mommy I have a tummy ache I have to go see Dr. Matt” Even my sassy 3 yr old daughter Cynthia loves him!

Beautiful photos Elisa! My son was due nov 6th 08. I worked up until then in a salon my feet swelled too. Well by 10:30 on his due date while I was cleaning like a maniac boom water broke. Off we went I had such an easy labor. I didn’t do Lamaze. I just breathed and relaxed. I actually didn’t want my sons father near me lol I felt bad after. So got to hospital and into room by 1am. Fell asleep at 5am woke up at 8 next thing the epidural. No big deal GET IT! even though I had no pain I needed an episiotomy. Next thing push I pushed for 10 min and he was out at 9:51 am 7pds 15oz 21 inc.
it’s true what my mom told me whatever pain or anything you go through as soon as they put him in my arms I forgot about everything I was in awe of what I had carried and now was in my arms and so in love.
Wishing you the best enjoy every moment it goes so fast. He will be starting 3rd grade
Have your hospital bag ready like now and put it near the front door so you can grab and go cause ya never know when he is going to decide to make his way out. God bless!!!!

Elisa! My baby boy is 10 months old. I feel like I was just in your situation not too long ago! Being a mommy to a boy is the best thing in the entire world. My greatest advice is to enjoy every minute because they really do grow so fast. I can’t believe my little guy is almost a year!! Best of luck and get the epidural! LOL Oh and you look beautiful- I didn’t want to take pregnancy pics either and at the last minute I actually entered a model call and got picked (thank goodness for that because now I look back and I’m happy I have that memory :)

Ok here’s a few of the best things I can think of!

        1) sleep now while you still can (everyone told me that and I didn’t listen) lol

        2) get a Fischer price rock n play sleeper if you haven’t yet. It was our most used item in the begginning.

        3) your body will go back and it might be better then ever! I was like you and worked out my entire pregnancy and I was BIG! Hahaa but I promise it does go back!

        4) I don’t know what your plan is about nursing but if you do decide to nurse don’t be so hard on yourself. I made it to 6 months nursing. My body didn’t want to keep going. Listen to your body and don’t have mom guilt.

        5) get a sound machine for the baby’s room!

        6) try not to stress and just follow your mommy instincts. You’re going to be great! XO

Absolutely love your pictures! Your girlfriend knew what she was talking about. These will bring so much joy to you when they are getting ready to leave the house. My babies are teenagers, 15 & 17. I just blinked so treasure EVERY moment. My advice to you would be, when your bundle of joy arrives, sleep when the baby sleeps. Forget the cleaning, who cares. When people visit, trust me, they don’t care what the house or what you look like. It’ll get done. Also, if someone asks you if you need help, take it. Even if it’s to feed the baby while you take a shower. I know easier said than done, but I speak the truth. God bless you, hubby and baby.

Elisa, I’m so happy you went for it! You look absolutely stunning! Those pictures of you, your husband and your little bundle of joy is priceless now, but just wait until your baby grows up. They’ll take on a whole new meaning. I know you get this a lot, but they do grow up SO fast! I still can’t believe Lennon will be going to college next year! How did that happen? :)

We truly wish you, your husband, and your baby, all the happiness in the world today and always. I can’t wait to give you a cute little outfit, for him or her, just as you did for Joe and I. I’ll always remember that kind gesture, AND I get to actually buy baby clothes again! LOL

    Hi Elisa,

Elisa you look stunning! I too did a small maternity shoot and I’m glad I did. I have 2 weeks to go but dr thinks this little guy will be here any day (I’m already 3cm!). I’m terrified and excited at the same time and I will tell you once you rest and put your feet up the swelling does get better. I commute to work in Nassau and the dr put me out so putting my feet up has been amazing! Don’t worry about those thank you cards I have the same dilemma. My mom told me not to worry about it and write them when the baby is sleeping (when you’re not staring at them sleep). I’ve had a rough pregnancy and I’m glad you said you’ve had a good pregnancy (minus swollen feet and ankles). However, I will miss him moving around in there but I know having him here in person will be that much sweeter. Try to take it easy I know you just said you moved, let people help you. This is the one time in life to take the help and try to rest. It’s so nice of you to share your journey with everyone and I wish you all the best with your new addition.

Elisa! You are glowing in every photo:) I feel for you on the swelling as I was pregnant through the summer with my twins. You will one day recognize your legs and feet – I promise! In the meantime enjoy these final weeks preparing for your miracle. Motherhood is an amazing journey and the crazy love never ends!! Xo

So impressed that you’re still going strong with reporting! I heard you were at Roosevelt Field last week. All your early morning hours have prepped you for this, except you don’t have to be camera ready for early morning feedings :) I’m sure you’re getting so much advice but I’ll give you one more – accept help! Even if someone (obviously friend or family member) wants to get you groceries or watch the baby so you can shower, take them up on it. We are trained to be super woman but don’t have to be every minute. And be kind to yourself. Mommy guilt is something we alone create so do what you can to stop that before it starts. You’re going to be a great mom – trust those instincts! :)

The swelling is the worst! I had that also! Could barely fit in my shoes. Enjoy time with your husband these last few weeks. It’s amazing being a mom.. But hard to find energy and time for each other once you have a little one. It goes so fast. My daughter just turned 8 months! And sleep now cause u will miss it! :) and don’t let anyone make u feel guilty about how u chose to feed ur baby… Formula or breast milk… Enjoy it all… And the wubba nub pacifiers are my babies must have (and the snugapuppy rocker lol) and the hair dryer made her stop crying during those 7-11 witching hours !

I highly recommend Beach Pediatrics in Oceanside.. The greatest Doctors and Staff you will ever meet. They are open 7 days a week..when I was a 1st time mom that was very comforting to me.. Knowing my pediatrician was always available.

    Hi Elisa,
I am so excited for you, and I don’t even know you or your husband. I watch you guys on NEWS12 every morning 6-7 am as I get ready for work and I feel like I’m part of your journey in some distant way. Thank you for sharing your beautiful pregnancy pics. You’re friend is correct when she said you are blessed to be pregnant and it might not happen again. I wanted children but I guess it wasn’t in the cards for me or in God’s hands if you will. I was diagnosed with Thyroid disease when I was 32 (right before getting married) and was told not to get pregnant till the thyroid was straightened out. Well, years later, now approaching 40, we decided not to have children because we were getting older and our lifestyle was very hectic. So we decided to adopt more animals and be parents to them. Love is Love and I poured all my love into them. I am now 51, divorced, but I still have my animals!!….and always will have some.
I just felt like sharing my story. Best of luck to you and your family!

I moved at 35 weeks pregnant and felt overwhelmed and behind in those last few weeks, but in hindsight, I realize it all worked out. All the baby needed was my husband and I, a breast or bottle, diapers and somewhere to sleep. The baby didn’t care that the room wasn’t totally finished, and they don’t sleep in there right away anyway. Take one day at a time, and with the swollen legs and feet, you do what you can handle. It’s not worth the risks of overdoing it. People above are right – it goes fast. I feel like we just got home from the hospital and our baby is 5 months. I agree with other comments, take the help at night at the hospital, even if you make the choice to breastfeed, that’ll help you sleep in between feedings. The new normal at home is so different than pre-baby, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything and I bet you’ll feel the same way. Lastly, don’t forget to ask for help if you need it, or don’t be afraid to accept it from others. Best wishes for a healthy delivery and congratulations on this amazing new chapter!
