Battle of the Band

NYE 2014

Happy New Year!

It’s New Year’s Day and I have the day off! So, what better time to sit with my future spouse (we had to use that term in our church “Focus” … the pre- Pre-Cana…) and figure out what we need to do to get this wedding planned!

I’ve been told, a lot, that the next thing we need to do is book our entertainment.

The battle of the band began well before we got engaged. Mo loves a band at a wedding- and has made that very clear time and time again.

I… and I know this statement will make brides across the nation cringe… hate wedding bands.

If I find out that there will be a band at wedding I’m invited to, ugh, it makes me less excited for that wedding. I love love love to dance. I always succeed in logging the most amount of time on the dance floor- I’ll even skip dessert- if there is a good DJ. And if there is a really good DJ- the worm is my specialty!

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean the cheesy mic hog passing out blow up guitars kind of MC, but a good DJ that feels the crowd, gets in some Journey and ends the night with Bon Jovi! As luck would have it, one of my close friends is the best MC I know. Heck, his nickname is ECHO.

So, we are trying to compromise and end this battle of the band peacefully. Since we have Oheka Castle all night, we are going to make Mo happy and have a band, and then hopefully bring in a DJ for the end of the night and after-party. (Note to Echo: we need to talk asap)

Have you heard any great wedding bands?

You guys are so funny..!! You guys can have the best of both worlds. I got married at Oheka and had a band and a DJ. But my band was on fire and had a group of really amazing singers not some wedding singer types that are like robots. And I had the best DJs as well. I will call you and go over all these details and by the time we are done it will be the best wedding Oheka or any where has seen. Especially because of my LOVE for you both. It will exude your personal touch and personality. Now let’s get to planning this amazing wedding and let’s hear both side. Now remember no one has to settle the best of both worlds awaits you and I have the plan.

Sorry Elisa, I’m on Mo’s side. Nothing like live music!
Check out NYCSWING.COM Ben books them a lot. They’re doing a showcase on Monday in the city if you want to check them out. Good Luck Sweetie!

Went to a great wedding once that had a great live band, it was really cool and they played great fun music and later on the night they had a DJ (for the younger cooler crowd that stayed later) if you can do both.

Definitely a band honey, I’m sorry but I’m with Mo on this. If you want to break out the DJ later (and Echo is great) fine.

I agree with you. I would rather have a huge selection of songs played by the original artist than a limited selection played “In The Style Of” the original artist simply because every band puts their own spin on a song. It is a great song because of the memories you have of it and the original artist.
Would you hang a painting which “resembles” a masterpiece done by so guy who paints in the style of the master.?…
It’s the original or nothing for me.
Good luck with your wedding…..Ours is May 30th…God Bless Both of You

I had Naked Truth as my wedding band 25 years ago this past June. They were fantastic then and are just as great now. Tons of energy and can keep everyone dancing with a variety of music from the 60s, 70s to the songs of today. Highly recommend them Elisa!!!

We got married at The Old Field club in East Setauket in October 2011. Everything about the day was amazing – weather, venue, food – but the best thing was the band. Go for a band on your special day, you won’t regret it.
We had The Mystic, who are absolutely fabulous. Go check them out if you haven’t already – Sam is the best. Happy planning – and thanks for making my mornings a little bit better :)

Hi Elisa, I believe we went to High School together and have seen you on the news! Congrats on your engagement. I also got engaged this December and am getting married in August. I would highly recommend Hank Lane for a band. THey are amazing!!! Everyone will be dancing all night and no one will be sitting down! I am using them for 2nd time this august. I also found my dress at Manhasset Bridal Salon too! I also tried on many but I just knew it was the one when I was going to buy 2 (one for ceremony and one for reception) and then I asked myself why? The one dress for me was the one that I didn’t want to change out of all night and thats the one I said yes to! Good luck to you and your wedding planning!!

Thank you so much Ashley! It’s funny that you mention the two dresses… people keep asking me if I’m getting two- and I feel the same why!
